What is Roblox?

Roblox isn't one game. It's a platform made by Roblox Corporation where millions of games, called experiences, are built by players and small studios, then played by everyone else for free. One minute you're running an obby (obstacle course), the next you're role-playing in a city, defending a tower or surviving a horror map.

You keep the same avatar, friends list and currency across all of them. That currency is Robux, which you spend on avatar clothing, accessories and in-game extras. Creators earn Robux when people buy what they've made, and some turn it into real income.

The Android app does everything the computer version does, apart from building experiences, which happens in Roblox Studio on a computer. Your account, friends and purchases sync across phone, tablet, PC and console. If you like open-ended adventure games, Roblox is the biggest of them all.

What's new in Roblox

The Roblox APK on Google Play was last updated on October 28, 2026. Roblox doesn't list a single version number on Play: it shows "Varies with device," because different phones get slightly different builds.

The release notes on Play are the same every week: Roblox delivers regular updates with bug fixes and improvements for speed and reliability. The developer hasn't published detailed notes for this update.

Most of what changes on Roblox doesn't come through the app at all. New experiences, events and updates to individual games are published by their creators on Roblox's servers, so they show up the moment you open the app.

Key features

Millions of free experiences

The Home and Charts tabs show what's popular, and search finds any experience by name. Each one has a page with its description, player count, content maturity label and a Play button. Almost all of them are free.

Your avatar, everywhere

Customize your avatar in the Avatar tab with free and paid items from the Marketplace. The avatar follows you into most experiences, although some games use their own characters.

Friends, chat and parties

Add friends, join the same server, and chat in text or (for verified users aged 13 and older) by voice. Party features let you move between experiences as a group.

Parental controls

Parents can link their own Roblox account to a child's account and manage it from there: set content maturity limits, turn chat off or restrict it, set monthly spending limits, and see screen time. Settings are under Settings → Parental Controls.

Cross-play

Roblox runs on phones, tablets, PCs, Macs, Xbox and PlayStation, and players on all of them meet in the same servers. Progress and Robux are tied to your account, not the device.

Tips for smoother play on older phones

Roblox experiences vary a lot in how demanding they are. If a game stutters, open the Roblox menu during play, go to Settings, switch Graphics Mode to Manual and lower the Graphics Quality slider. Closing other apps and keeping a few gigabytes of storage free also helps, since Roblox caches game assets as you play.

How to install Roblox APK on Android

Get Roblox from Google Play if you can: it updates often, and Play handles that for you. If your device has no Play Store, install with care.

  1. Check that your device runs Android 8.0 or newer.
  2. Download Roblox only from Google Play or links on roblox.com. Never install files promising free Robux or extra features.
  3. If you downloaded the file from APKPeer, check that the SHA-256 matches the one on this page. We currently link to Google Play only, so there's no APKPeer file for Roblox.
  4. Open the APK and allow your browser or file manager to Install unknown apps when Android asks.
  5. Tap Install, then open Roblox and log in or sign up.
  6. Turn off the install permission under Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps.

Without Play Store, you'll have to repeat this when Roblox updates, because the app stops connecting when it's too far out of date.

Is Roblox APK safe?

The official Roblox APK is safe. It's published by Roblox Corporation on Google Play, where it has more than a billion installs, and it doesn't contain ads.

The risks on Roblox are about people and scams, not the app. Players chat with strangers, so younger kids should use an account with parental controls and restricted chat. Google Play rates Roblox Teen and labels it with in-game purchases that include random items.

Scams are the biggest problem. "Free Robux" sites, Discord links and APKs are designed to steal accounts or install malware. Roblox never gives away Robux through third-party sites.

You'll also see "Roblox mod APK" files and cheat scripts that promise to fly, teleport or auto-farm. They're not made by Roblox. Many carry malware or steal your login, and Roblox's anti-cheat system detects them and bans accounts. APKPeer only lists the official app.

Roblox vs alternatives

  • Minecraft is better if you want to build a world yourself rather than play other people's games. The full game is paid, and there's a free trial.
  • Stumble Guys is a single, polished party game with quick rounds. It's simpler, but it has a lot less variety than Roblox.
  • Among Us is a social deduction game for groups of friends. It's a focused experience, with no avatar marketplace.

For sheer variety, nothing on Android comes close to Roblox. Set up parental controls first if a child will be playing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I install Roblox on Android?

Open Google Play, search for Roblox and check the developer is Roblox Corporation before tapping Install. It needs Android 8.0 or newer. It's free to install, and Play keeps it updated automatically, so you never need to download an APK by hand. Avoid copies from other sites: they aren't from Roblox Corporation and may be altered, so the safest way to play Roblox is the official listing.

Is Roblox free to play on Android?

Yes. Roblox is free to download and almost every experience on it is free to play. Money comes in through Robux, the in-game currency, which players spend on avatar items and upgrades inside experiences. Google Play lists Robux purchases from $0.50 to $199.99, and Roblox Premium is an optional subscription.

Is Roblox safe for kids?

Roblox can be safe for children with the right settings. Parents can link their own account to manage chat, spending limits and which experiences their child can join, based on content maturity labels. Google Play rates the app Teen, and because players talk to strangers, setting up parental controls is worth the ten minutes.

Why does Roblox show "Varies with device" as the version?

Roblox ships slightly different builds to different phones, so Google Play shows "Varies with device" instead of a single version number. Updates arrive often, roughly every week, and Play installs the right build for your phone automatically. That's why we list the update date rather than a version number.

Can you get free Robux?

Not from generators or apps that promise it. Sites and APKs offering free Robux are scams that steal accounts or install malware. Legitimate ways to get Robux are buying them, Roblox Premium, gift cards, and selling items or game passes you create, through Roblox's own systems.

What Android version do I need for Roblox?

Roblox needs Android 8.0 or newer, according to its Google Play listing. It also needs a constant internet connection, since every experience runs online. Bigger experiences can be demanding, so lowering the graphics level in Roblox's settings helps on older phones.
