Password Generator

Free · runs in your browser · nothing uploaded

Quick answer

This password generator creates strong, random passwords using your browser's secure random number generator. Choose the length and which characters to include, see an estimate of the strength, and copy the result with one tap. Passwords are generated on your device, never sent anywhere and never stored.

Pick at least one character type

Very strong · about 129 bits of entropy

How to generate a strong password

  1. Set the length with the slider. 16 characters or more is a good choice for important accounts.
  2. Choose which characters to include: uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols.
  3. Turn on Exclude look-alikes if you'll ever need to read or type the password by hand.
  4. Tap Copy and paste it into the sign-up or change-password form, then save it in your password manager.

A new password is generated every time you change a setting or tap New password.

What makes a password strong?

A password's strength comes from how many possible combinations an attacker would have to try. That depends on two things: the length, and how many different characters could appear in each position. The strength bar shows this as bits of entropy:

EntropyStrengthExample
Under 40 bitsWeak8 lowercase letters
40–60 bitsFair10 letters and numbers
60–80 bitsStrong12 characters, all types
80+ bitsVery strong16+ characters, all types

Length helps more than anything else. Adding four random characters does more for security than swapping letters for symbols in a short, memorable word.

How this generator keeps passwords private

Passwords are created with your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, the same kind used for encryption. Each character is chosen without bias, and the password never leaves your device: nothing is sent to a server, logged or stored. You can even load the page, switch off your connection and keep generating.

Good password habits

  • Use a different password for every account. If one site is breached, the others stay safe.
  • Use a password manager. Android, Chrome and dedicated apps can store and fill strong passwords, so you don't need to remember them.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication for email, banking and social accounts. It protects you even if a password leaks.
  • Never share passwords in chats or email. If you need to share Wi-Fi access, a Wi-Fi QR code is safer and easier.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a password be?

Use at least 16 characters for important accounts. Length matters more than complexity: a random 16-character password with letters and numbers is far harder to crack than a short one full of symbols.

Is it safe to use an online password generator?

This one is, because the password is created by your browser's secure random generator and never leaves your device. Nothing is sent to a server or saved. You can disconnect from the internet and it still works.

How do I remember strong passwords?

Don't try to. Use a password manager, such as the one built into Android or your browser, to store a different random password for every account. You only need to remember one strong master password.

What does 'exclude ambiguous characters' do?

It removes characters that are easy to confuse, like the letter O and the number 0, or l, 1 and I. That helps when you have to read a password aloud or type it from paper.
