What is Granny?
Granny is a first-person horror escape game. You wake up locked inside Granny's house, and you have five days to get out. Granny hears everything: drop an item, step on a creaky floorboard or knock over a vase, and she comes looking for you. You search the house for keys, tools and items that open the exit, while hiding under beds and in cupboards when she's near.
Granny is made by DVloper, a small indie developer. Since its release in November 2017, it has passed 500 million downloads on Google Play and become a favourite of horror game streamers. It's one of the adventure games we list.
What's new in Granny 1.8.12
The latest Granny APK on Google Play is version 1.8.12, updated on June 6, 2026. DVloper's release notes on Play list:
- Fixed a bug that could leave the player unable to move after a new day.
Key features
Five days to escape
Each time Granny catches you, a day passes. Escape before the end of day five, or the game is over.
Sound matters
Granny reacts to noise. Moving slowly, avoiding creaky floors and placing items carefully keeps you hidden.
Hiding places
Hide under beds, in wardrobes and other places when she's coming.
Items and puzzles
Find keys, tools and objects hidden around the house, then work out where they're used.
Difficulty modes
Choose from easier modes, where Granny is slower, to harder modes, or practice mode, where Granny isn't in the house at all.
Tips for escaping
- Use practice mode first to learn the house layout without Granny.
- Move slowly. Crouching and slow movement make less noise.
- Learn where items spawn. Items appear in different places each time, but in a limited set of locations.
- Drop items on soft surfaces like beds to avoid noise.
- Listen for her footsteps and hide early.
- Find the weapon. Some items let you stop Granny for a short time.
How to install Granny APK on Android
The easiest option is Granny on Google Play.
- Check that your phone runs Android 7.0 or newer.
- Open Google Play, search for Granny, and make sure the developer is DVloper.
- Tap Install, then open the game.
- Link the game to an account in its settings, if it offers one, so your progress is saved if you change phones.
Without Google Play, install the official game carefully: get it only from Google Play or the developer, allow your browser or file manager to Install unknown apps when Android asks, then turn that permission off again under Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps. Online games need the latest version, so outside Play you'll have to update by hand. APKPeer currently links to Google Play only and doesn't host a file for this game.
Is Granny APK safe?
The official Granny from Google Play is safe. It's published by DVloper, rated Teen for violence and blood, contains ads, and offers an in-app purchase of $2.99.
- Scary content. Jump scares and dark themes may upset young children.
- Copycat games. There are many games with "Granny" in the name. The original is by DVloper, with the package name com.dvloper.granny.
- Unofficial versions. Modified Granny APKs aren't from DVloper and can carry malware. The game already has practice and easy modes if you want a gentler experience.
Difficulty modes explained
Granny offers several difficulty levels. In easy mode, Granny moves more slowly and you have more time to react. Normal is the standard challenge, while hard and extreme make her faster and more alert, with fewer chances to hide. Practice mode removes Granny entirely, so you can explore the house, find item locations and learn routes without pressure. Many players learn the layout in practice mode, then try to escape on normal, before taking on the harder modes for a real challenge.
Granny with headphones
Sound is everything in Granny. Her footsteps, creaking doors and the sounds of items being moved give away where she is. Playing with headphones makes it much easier to judge which direction she's coming from and when it's safe to move. Turn the game volume up and your phone's other sounds down. Remember, she hears you too: every noise you make can draw her to your location, so listen before you move.
Granny vs alternatives
- Among Us offers social suspense with friends rather than solo horror.
- Minecraft has creepy caves at night, plus endless building.
- Roblox has many horror and escape games made by players.
Granny is a short, tense horror game that's easy to learn and hard to beat. Turn off the lights, put on headphones, and see if you can escape in five days.
