What is Among Us?

Among Us is an online party game about trust and lying, made by the small US studio Innersloth. A group of players are Crewmates on a spaceship, fixing wiring, emptying garbage and doing other tasks. Hidden among them are one or more Impostors, whose job is to sabotage the ship and eliminate Crewmates without getting caught.

When a body is found or someone calls an emergency meeting, everyone discusses who's acting suspicious and votes someone off. Crewmates win by finishing their tasks or voting out every Impostor. Impostors win by outnumbering the crew. The fun is in the arguments: accusations, alibis and very confident lies.

It's been on Google Play since June 2018, became a worldwide hit in 2020, and has more than 500 million downloads. It's a quick, social action game that works best with friends.

What's new in Among Us 2026.9.29

Among Us version 2026.9.29 reached Google Play on September 11, 2026. Innersloth calls it update v19.0.0, and the release notes on Play describe:

• The Influencer. A new Ghost Crewmate role that can still help after being eliminated.
• Message ability. The Influencer can send clues from beyond the grave to help catch the Impostors.
• Halloween content. Spooky map decorations, Trick and Treat Cosmicubes, and the return of the 2019 Halloween Bundle in October.

Key features

Crewmates and Impostors

Each game randomly assigns roles. Crewmates move around the map doing short tasks, which are mini-games like swiping a card or aligning an engine. Impostors fake tasks, use vents to move around unseen, sabotage systems such as lights or oxygen, and eliminate Crewmates when nobody's watching.

Meetings and voting

Report a body or press the emergency button to call a meeting. Players chat, share what they saw, and vote. Anyone with the most votes is ejected, and depending on settings, the game may reveal whether they were the Impostor.

Roles

Hosts can add extra roles. Crewmates can be Engineers (who use vents), Scientists (who check vitals anywhere) or Guardian Angels (who protect others after dying). Impostors can be Shapeshifters. The new Influencer adds another option for eliminated Crewmates.

Several maps

Play on The Skeld, MIRA HQ, Polus, The Airship and The Fungle. Each has its own layout, tasks and sabotage, and some are better for large groups.

Cross-play

Among Us works across Android, iPhone, PC and consoles. Private lobbies with a code make it easy to play with friends wherever they are.

Tips for your first games

As a Crewmate, stay near other players and remember who you saw and where. Those details are what win meetings. Do your tasks, because finishing them is a way to win too. As an Impostor, fake tasks by standing at task stations for a few seconds, never vent while anyone can see you, and don't be the first to accuse someone. In meetings, specific information ("I saw Red leave Electrical") is far more convincing than "Red is sus."

How to install Among Us APK on Android

The easiest option is Among Us on Google Play. Without Play Store, install the official game carefully.

1. Check your phone runs Android 8.0 or newer.
2. Get the game only from Google Play or Innersloth. Files promising to always make you the Impostor aren't official.
3. If you downloaded the file from APKPeer, check that the SHA-256 matches the one on this page. We currently link to Google Play only, so there's no APKPeer file for Among Us.
4. Open the APK and allow your browser or file manager to Install unknown apps when Android asks.
5. Tap Install, open the game, and set up your Innersloth account and name.
6. Turn off the install permission under Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps.

Online play needs the latest version, so without Play Store you'll need to update by hand.

Is Among Us APK safe?

The official Among Us APK is safe. It's published by Innersloth LLC on Google Play, where it's rated Everyone 10+ for fantasy violence and mild blood. Play marks it as containing ads, with in-app purchases from $0.99 to $24.99 per item for cosmetics only.

The main risk is people, not the app. Public lobbies mean chatting with strangers, so younger players should use a child account with restricted chat, or play only in private lobbies with friends. Innersloth also lets you report players for bad behavior.

You'll find modified Among Us APKs promising to always make you the Impostor, show who the Impostor is, or unlock all cosmetics. They aren't from Innersloth, they can contain malware, and players using cheats in online lobbies get banned. APKPeer only lists the official game.

Among Us vs alternatives

• Stumble Guys is fast-paced chaos with up to 32 players and no talking required. It suits quick sessions with strangers better than Among Us.
• Roblox has many Among Us-style mystery games among its player-made experiences, plus everything else.
• Goose Goose Duck is a social deduction game in the same spirit, with lots of extra roles and built-in voice chat.

For a game night with friends on your phones, Among Us is still one of the best. Set up a private lobby, share the code, and agree on house rules, such as how many Impostors and which roles, before the first round.
