What is Honkai: Star Rail?

Honkai: Star Rail is a turn-based role-playing game from HoYoverse, the studio behind Genshin Impact. You play the Trailblazer, travelling across the galaxy aboard the Astral Express with a crew of companions, visiting space stations, frozen planets and dream cities, each with its own story. Combat is turn-based: you pick skills and time Ultimates for each of your four characters, exploiting enemy weaknesses to break their toughness.

The latest Honkai: Star Rail APK on Google Play is version 4.6.0, updated on September 17, 2026. HoYoverse's release notes on Play describe Version 4.6, "Dance With the Beast Before Moonrise":

• New character: Pearl (Elation: Ice).
• Character reruns: Evanescia (Elation: Physical) and Mortenax Blade (Nihility: Fire).
• New story: the Trailblaze Mission "Astropolis — Dance With the Beast Before Moonrise".
• New events, including "Love, Ghosts & Robots" and an Interastral Peace Gala event.

Key features

Turn-based combat

Each character has a basic attack, a skill and an Ultimate you can trigger at any moment once charged. Skill Points are shared across the team, so you decide who uses skills and who uses basic attacks. Hitting weaknesses breaks enemy toughness for extra damage.

Paths and elements

Characters follow Paths, such as Destruction, Hunt, Erudition, Harmony, Nihility, Preservation and Abundance, that define their role, and use one of seven combat types. Building balanced teams is the core of the strategy.

Story and exploration

Every world has its own main story, side quests, puzzles and characters. Exploration is mostly linear compared with Genshin, which makes it easier to play in short sessions.

Endgame modes

Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction, Apocalyptic Shadow and Simulated Universe give challenging content with rewards that reset regularly.

Auto-battle

Auto-battle and double-speed help with daily farming, which suits playing on a phone.

• Follow the Trailblaze Missions. They unlock new worlds, systems and free characters.
• Spend Trailblaze Power every day. Use it on materials for the characters you actually play.
• Build one strong team first. A damage dealer, a support, a sustain character and a flexible fourth slot is a reliable setup.
• Use the Simulated Universe. It's a great source of relic materials and rewards.
• Plan your Warps. Thanks to pity, saving for a limited character you want is better than pulling on every banner.
• Turn on auto-battle for farming, but play hard fights manually.
