What is eFootball?

eFootball is Konami's free football game, and the successor to the long-running Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) series. Konami renamed the series and made it free to play in 2021, and the Android app, still under its old package name jp.konami.pesam, has been on Google Play since May 2017 with more than 100 million downloads.

It's the realistic end of mobile football. Matches are full 11-a-side games with real player likenesses, detailed animations and tactics, played either against the AI or online against other people. If you've played PES on a console, the feel will be familiar.

The main mode is Dream Team, where you build a squad of real players, train them and take them into online and offline competitions. It's one of the deepest sports games on Android, and it needs a fairly capable phone and a good connection.

What's new in eFootball 11.1.1

eFootball 11.1.1 reached Google Play on October 13, 2026. The release notes on Play say only that a number of issues were fixed, and point players to the in-game News section for details.

Because the release notes are so brief, the best way to see what a version changed is to open the game after updating. Konami announces new seasons, featured players and events in the game's News section and on its official site, rather than in the Play Store notes. Many of those changes arrive as data updates after you open the game, not through the app itself.

Key features

Realistic 11-a-side matches

eFootball plays full matches with a virtual stick and action buttons, and offers a simpler control scheme for players who want fewer buttons. You can switch control types in the settings. Matches are shorter than real time, but they play like real football.

Dream Team

Build your own club from real players. Sign players with in-game currency, train them to raise their stats, and pick your formation and tactics. Your Dream Team is what you take into most events and online matches.

Online matches and events

Play ranked and casual matches against other players, plus limited-time events with their own rewards. Many events have rules, such as only using players from certain leagues, which makes squad building more interesting.

Licensed clubs and players

eFootball includes a large set of licensed clubs and real players, with updated player ratings during the season. The exact lineup of licenses changes from season to season.

Cross-platform progress

eFootball runs on mobile, PC and consoles. Link your Konami ID and your progress follows you across devices.

Tips for a stronger Dream Team

Pick a formation that suits the players you actually have, instead of copying a famous club's. Focus your training on the few players who play every match, rather than spreading progress points thin. Play the events: they're the steadiest source of free rewards and players. And before spending coins on random player packs, check which players are featured and whether you need one in that position.

How to install eFootball APK on Android

The easiest option is eFootball on Google Play. Without Play Store, install the official game carefully.

  1. Check your phone runs Android 7.0 or newer, and has plenty of free storage for the extra game data.
  2. Get the game only from Google Play or Konami. Files promising free coins or unlocked players aren't official.
  3. If you downloaded the file from APKPeer, check that the SHA-256 matches the one on this page. We currently link to Google Play only, so there's no APKPeer file for eFootball.
  4. Open the APK and allow your browser or file manager to Install unknown apps when Android asks.
  5. Tap Install, connect to Wi-Fi, and open the game to download the remaining data.
  6. Turn off the install permission under Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps.

eFootball won't connect if it's out of date, so without Play Store you'll need to update by hand after each release.

Is eFootball APK safe?

The official eFootball APK is safe. It's published by KONAMI on Google Play, where it's rated Everyone.

Be aware of the spending side. Google Play marks the game as containing ads, and in-app purchases run from $0.19 to $109.99 per item. Google Play notes that some purchases include random items, which mostly means player packs. On a child's phone, require authentication for purchases in Google Play or use Family Link.

Because everything runs on Konami's servers, there's no way to unlock players or coins by modifying the app, whatever download sites claim. Modified eFootball APKs can steal your Konami ID or Google login, and accounts caught using them are banned. APKPeer only lists the official game.

eFootball vs alternatives

  • Dream League Soccer 2026 is lighter and faster, with club management and offline career matches. It runs on more modest phones.
  • Score! Hero replaces full matches with short story moments you play by drawing passes and shots. It's ideal for quick sessions.
  • EA SPORTS FC Mobile is eFootball's main rival, with its own set of official licenses and a strong team-building mode.

If you want the most realistic football on your phone, free, eFootball is the one to try. Just make sure your phone has the storage and the connection for it, because it needs both more than lighter football games do.

Frequently asked questions

How do I install eFootball on Android?

Open Google Play, search for eFootball and check the developer is KONAMI before tapping Install. It needs Android 7.0 or newer. It's free to install, and Play keeps it updated automatically, so you never need to download an APK by hand. Avoid copies from other sites: they aren't from KONAMI and may be altered, so the safest way to play eFootball is the official listing.

Is eFootball free?

Yes, eFootball is free to download and play on Android. Konami makes money from optional in-app purchases, mainly eFootball Coins used for player packs, which Google Play lists from $0.19 to $109.99 per item. Some purchases include random items. You can build a competitive team without paying, though it takes longer.

Is eFootball the same as PES?

Yes, eFootball is the successor to Pro Evolution Soccer (PES). Konami renamed the series in 2021 and moved it to a free-to-play model. The Android app keeps the old package name, jp.konami.pesam, which is why updates install over earlier PES mobile versions.

Can I play eFootball offline?

No. eFootball needs an internet connection to start and to play, including matches against the AI, because your squad and progress are stored on Konami's servers. A stable Wi-Fi connection also helps avoid lag in online matches. If your connection drops mid-match, the game may pause or end the match.

Why does eFootball download more data after installing?

eFootball downloads extra game data the first time you open it and after big updates, on top of the app itself. Make sure you have plenty of free storage and are on Wi-Fi before you start, or the download can fail partway through.
