How to convert WebP to PNG
- Tap Choose WebP images or drag your files onto the box.
- Tap Convert to PNG.
- Download each PNG.
Transparent areas are kept, and PNG is lossless, so no further detail is lost in the conversion.
Why convert WebP to PNG?
Many websites now serve images as WebP to load faster, so pictures you save from the web often end up as .webp files. WebP works in browsers and on Android, but you might need PNG when:
- An older app or editor won't open WebP files.
- An upload form only accepts PNG or JPG.
- You want to edit the image and re-save it many times without quality loss.
- You need transparency that JPG can't store.
PNG or JPG?
| Choose PNG when | Choose JPG when |
|---|---|
| The image has a transparent background | You need a small file |
| It's a logo, icon, sticker or screenshot | It's a photo |
| You'll edit it further | It's going in an email or document |
For JPG output, use the WebP to JPG converter instead.
Expect a bigger file
PNG stores every pixel exactly, while WebP is designed to be compact, so the PNG is usually larger, often several times larger for photos. That's normal and means nothing was lost. If size matters, consider JPG, or shrink the PNG afterwards with the image resizer.
Animated WebP
Animated WebP files are converted using their first frame only. To keep the animation, keep the WebP file or use a dedicated GIF or video converter.
