How to convert WebP to JPG
- Tap Choose WebP images or drag your WebP files onto the box.
- Set the JPG quality. 90% is a good default.
- If your WebP has transparent areas, choose the background color that fills them.
- Tap Convert to JPG, then Download each file.
Why are my images saved as WebP?
WebP is an image format created by Google that makes files smaller than JPG or PNG at similar quality. Most large websites now serve WebP so their pages load faster, which is why images you save from a browser often end up as .webp files.
Modern browsers and Android open WebP without any problem. The trouble starts elsewhere:
- Older photo editors and desktop apps may not open WebP.
- Many upload forms, such as for job applications or government sites, only accept JPG or PNG.
- Some messaging and printing services reject or mishandle WebP.
Converting to JPG gives you a file that works everywhere.
JPG or PNG?
| Convert to | Choose it when |
|---|---|
| JPG | The image is a photo, or you need a small file that opens anywhere |
| PNG | The image has transparency, sharp text or line art, or you'll edit it further |
For PNG output, use the general image converter and choose PNG.
Animated WebP files
WebP can contain animation, like a GIF. JPG can't, so only the first frame is converted. If you need the animation, keep the WebP file or convert it with a GIF or video tool.
Private and free
Your WebP files are converted inside your browser and never uploaded. There's no limit on how many images you convert, no account, and no watermark. Once the page has loaded, it even works without an internet connection.
