How to convert PNG to WebP
- Tap Choose PNG images or drag your files onto the box.
- Set the quality.
- Tap Convert to WebP, then download each file.
Transparent areas stay transparent, so logos, icons and stickers keep their see-through backgrounds.
Why convert PNG to WebP?
PNG is a lossless format, which keeps every pixel but often produces very large files, especially for screenshots and photos saved as PNG. WebP supports transparency like PNG but compresses far more efficiently:
| Image type | Typical saving as WebP |
|---|---|
| Photo saved as PNG | 70–90% smaller |
| Screenshot | 40–80% smaller |
| Simple logo or icon | 20–50% smaller |
The exact saving depends on the image, and the tool shows it for each file.
Where WebP helps most
- Websites, where large PNGs slow down pages and hurt speed scores.
- App and game assets, where smaller images reduce download size.
- Blog screenshots, which are often saved as PNG by default and can be several megabytes each.
Quality settings for graphics
At lower quality settings, text and sharp edges in screenshots can look slightly blurred. For screenshots with small text, keep the quality at 85–90%. Photos can usually go lower without visible change.
When to keep PNG
Keep PNG for images you'll keep editing, for print, or where every pixel must stay exact, such as pixel art or technical diagrams. Some older apps and upload forms also still require PNG or JPG.
