What is Subway Surfers?

Subway Surfers is a free endless runner from SYBO Games, a studio in Copenhagen. You play a young graffiti artist caught tagging a train, and you run along the tracks to escape a grumpy Inspector and his dog. Swipe left and right to change lanes, up to jump, and down to roll under barriers, all while dodging oncoming trains.

The run never ends until you crash. Along the way you collect coins, grab power-ups like the jetpack and super sneakers, and hop on hoverboards that save you from one crash. It's simple enough for kids and fast enough to stay fun for adults.

The game has been on Google Play since September 2012 and has more than a billion downloads. It stays fresh with the World Tour: every few weeks the game moves to a new city with new scenery and characters. It's one of the best-known arcade games on Android.

Version 3.71.0 reached Google Play on October 29, 2026. According to the release notes on Play:

• Shenzhen Showdown. The World Tour heads to Shenzhen, with new characters Wu Jade & Ling and Meihua.

• Unlockables. Complete the Season Hunt Challenge to unlock Meihua, and stay off the ground in the Floor is Lava Challenge to unlock her Bao Bao Outfit.

Key features

Swipe controls

Four swipes do everything: left and right to switch lanes, up to jump, and down to roll or drop quickly back to the ground. The game speeds up the longer you run, so reactions matter more and more.

Power-ups

Pick up a jetpack to fly above the trains and collect coins, super sneakers to jump higher, a coin magnet, or a score multiplier. You can upgrade power-ups with coins so they last longer.

Hoverboards

Activate a hoverboard by double-tapping the screen, and it absorbs one crash before breaking. Some boards have special abilities, such as higher jumps or speed boosts.

The World Tour

Spend coins on upgrading the magnet and jetpack first, because longer power-ups mean more coins on every run. Save hoverboards for later in a run, when speed makes crashes more likely.
