What is Temple Run 2?
Temple Run 2 is a free endless runner from Imangi Studios, the small studio behind the original Temple Run. You play an explorer who has grabbed a cursed idol and now has to outrun a giant demon monkey. You swipe to turn and jump, swipe down to slide, and tilt your phone to move side to side and collect coins.
There's no finish line. The run goes on until you crash, fall or get caught, and the goal is to beat your best distance and score. Runs last anything from a few seconds to several minutes, which is why the game has stayed popular for so long: it's perfect for a short break.
The sequel arrived on Google Play in January 2013 and has passed a billion downloads there. Imangi still updates it regularly with seasonal maps, characters and challenges, and it's one of the classic arcade games on Android.
What's new in Temple Run 2 1.137.0
Version 1.137.0 reached Google Play on October 6, 2026, with a Halloween theme. According to the Play Store release notes:
- Spirit Cove and Spooky Summit return. Two seasonal maps are back.
- New character. Unlock Rosa "Rápida" Reyes through limited-time challenges.
- Coin Streaks. A new challenge type in Global Challenges.
- Spooky runners. Count Magnus and Carnifex are available again.
- Limited-time bundles. The Haunted Harvest Map and Classic Monsters Bundle return for a short time.
Key features
Simple swipe controls
Swipe left or right to turn at corners, up to jump, down to slide, and tilt the phone to grab coins on either side of the path. Tilt sensitivity can be adjusted in the settings if your coins keep slipping past.
Multiple maps
Beyond the original Sky Summit, Temple Run 2 has added maps such as Frozen Shadows, Blazing Sands and Lost Jungle, plus seasonal ones like Spooky Summit. Each changes the scenery and obstacles, from mine-cart rides to zip lines.
Characters and abilities
Each runner has a special ability, such as a coin magnet, a shield or a boost. You unlock characters with coins or gems, then level up their abilities to make longer runs possible.
Objectives and Global Challenges
Objectives give you specific goals, like collecting a set number of coins in one run, and completing them raises your score multiplier. Global Challenges and events add limited-time goals with rewards, including the new Coin Streaks challenge in this update.
Offline play
The core game works without internet, so you can run on a plane or underground. Online features such as Global Challenges, events and leaderboards need a connection.
Tips for longer runs
Watch the path ahead rather than your runner: at higher speeds, obstacles appear sooner than you expect. Swipe a moment early at corners rather than late. The game is forgiving about early turns and unforgiving about late ones. Complete objectives to raise your score multiplier, because it boosts every run after. And pick one character and level up their ability first, rather than spreading coins across several runners.
How to install Temple Run 2 APK on Android
The easiest option is Temple Run 2 on Google Play. If your phone doesn't have Play Store, install the official game carefully.
- Check your phone runs Android 7.0 or newer.
- Get the game only from Google Play or Imangi Studios. Files promising free coins or gems aren't official.
- If you downloaded the file from APKPeer, check that the SHA-256 matches the one on this page. We currently link to Google Play only, so there's no APKPeer file for Temple Run 2.
- Open the APK and allow your browser or file manager to Install unknown apps when Android asks.
- Tap Install and open the game. Sign in if you want your progress saved to the cloud.
- Turn off the install permission under Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps.
Is Temple Run 2 APK safe?
The official Temple Run 2 APK is safe. It's published by Imangi Studios on Google Play, where it has more than a billion downloads and is rated Everyone 10+ for fantasy violence.
The game shows ads, including optional ads you can watch for rewards, and sells in-app purchases from $0.99 to $44.99 per item. On a child's phone, turn on purchase authentication in Google Play or use Family Link.
Search for Temple Run 2 and you'll see "mod APK" downloads that claim to unlock every character or give you endless coins. They aren't from Imangi, they're a common way to get adware onto a phone, and they don't receive the seasonal updates. APKPeer only lists the official game.
Temple Run 2 vs alternatives
- Subway Surfers is the other big endless runner. It uses lanes instead of turns, has brighter, city-themed art, and updates with a new world tour location regularly.
- Sonic Dash brings Sonic the Hedgehog into an endless runner with boss fights. It's faster, but heavier on ads and menus.
- Geometry Dash Lite is a rhythm platformer with fixed levels rather than an endless run. It's harder, and every death is your fault.
If you want the classic swipe-to-survive runner, Temple Run 2 still does it best. It's small, it plays offline, and a single run never takes long, which is exactly what an endless runner should be.
