How to create a URL slug
- Paste a title into the Input box, or several titles, one per line.
- Choose a separator: hyphen (recommended) or underscore.
- Copy the slugs.
For example, "My Post Title: Here's What's New!" becomes my-post-title-heres-whats-new.
What the generator does
- Converts letters to lowercase.
- Removes accents, so "Café Münster" becomes
cafe-munster. - Deletes apostrophes, so "What's New" becomes
whats-newrather thanwhat-s-new. - Replaces spaces and symbols with your separator.
- Removes separators from the start and end.
What makes a good slug?
| Good | Why |
|---|---|
/app/brave-browser | Short, readable, describes the page |
/tools/qr-code-generator | Contains the words people search for |
| Avoid | Why |
|---|---|
/p?id=48213 | Tells people and search engines nothing |
/brave-browser-2026 | The year makes the URL go out of date |
/My_Post_Title | Mixed case and underscores are harder to read and share |
Keep slugs short: three to five words is plenty. Remove filler words like "the", "a" and "and" if the slug still makes sense without them.
Changing a slug later
Once a page is published and linked to, changing its slug breaks links and loses search ranking unless you add a 301 redirect from the old address to the new one. It's worth choosing a good slug before you publish.

To safely put text with spaces or symbols into a link without making a slug, use the URL encoder. To fix capitalization in the titles themselves, use the case converter.
Slugs are generated in your browser, and nothing you paste is uploaded.
