What is Turbo VPN?

Turbo VPN is a free VPN proxy app for Android published by Innovative Connecting. It's one of the most downloaded VPNs on Google Play: the listing shows more than 500 million installs since it launched in June 2016.

The pitch is simplicity. You open the app, tap the big connect button, and your phone's traffic goes through one of Turbo VPN's servers instead of straight to your network. That hides your browsing from the café Wi-Fi or school network you're on, and it can make you appear to be in another country.

The free version is paid for with ads, and a VIP subscription removes them and opens up more server locations. That model is common among free VPN apps. What sets Turbo VPN apart, for better or worse, is its scale and the questions about who runs it, which we cover in the safety section below.

What's new in Turbo VPN 4.3.2.2

Turbo VPN 4.3.2.2 reached Google Play on October 20, 2026. The release notes on Play are short:

• Network performance was optimized for faster, more stable connections.
• A few minor bugs were fixed.

Innovative Connecting doesn't publish a detailed changelog, so there's no more specific information about this version than that.

Key features

One-tap connection

The home screen is a single connect button. Turbo VPN picks a server for you based on speed, so you don't need to understand protocols or locations to get started. If you want a specific country, tap the location at the top and choose from the list.

Free and VIP servers

Free users get a limited set of server locations and see ads. Google Play marks the app as "Contains ads," and the paid VIP plan, sold as an in-app purchase, removes ads and unlocks the full server list. Play lists purchases from $0.99 to $69.99 per item.

Split tunneling for specific apps

You can choose which apps use the VPN and which go direct. It's useful if a banking app refuses to work over a VPN, or if you only want your browser to be protected. Look for the per-app option in the app's settings.

Protocol choice

Turbo VPN lets you switch between connection modes in its settings. If the default mode won't connect on a restrictive network, trying another protocol is the first fix to reach for.

How to install Turbo VPN APK on Android

The simplest option is Turbo VPN on Google Play. If your phone doesn't have Play Store, install the APK carefully.

1. Get the APK only from Google Play or the developer's official website. VPN apps see all your traffic, so a tampered copy is especially dangerous.
2. If you downloaded the file from APKPeer, check that the SHA-256 matches the one on this page. We currently link to Google Play only, so there's no APKPeer file for this app.
3. Open the APK and allow your browser or file manager to Install unknown apps when Android asks.
4. Tap Install. If Android says the app conflicts with an existing package, the file isn't signed by the developer. Delete it.
5. Open Turbo VPN and accept the VPN connection request. Android shows a key icon in the status bar while a VPN is active.
6. Turn the install permission off again under Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps.

Is Turbo VPN APK safe?

The official Turbo VPN APK from Google Play isn't malware. It's a signed app from a developer that's been on Play since 2016. Whether you should trust it with all your traffic is a separate question, and there are documented concerns.

In April 2025 the Tech Transparency Project reported that Innovative Connecting, the Singapore-registered developer, traces back to Qihoo 360, a Chinese cybersecurity company on a US trade blacklist. The findings were covered by Malwarebytes, and a follow-up check found Turbo VPN still available in US app stores. Innovative Connecting disputed the reports. Under Chinese law, companies can be required to hand over data to the state, which is why the ownership question matters for a VPN.

Our honest take: Turbo VPN is fine for getting past a basic network block. For anything sensitive, such as banking on public Wi-Fi, journalism or activism, pick a VPN with a published independent no-logs audit.

Also be careful with unofficial "VIP" builds of Turbo VPN on download sites. A VPN that's been modified can read everything you send. APKPeer only links to the official app.

Turbo VPN vs alternatives

• Proton VPN has a free plan with no ads and no data cap, open-source apps, and independently audited no-logs claims. The free plan gives you fewer locations and you can't pick a country.
• Windscribe offers a free plan with a monthly data allowance and a choice of locations. The data cap means it's better for occasional use than all-day streaming.
• Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 with WARP encrypts your traffic for free with no ads, but it isn't built to change your location, so it won't help if you need to appear in another country.

If you just need a quick free connection and don't mind ads, Turbo VPN does the job. If privacy is the reason you want a VPN, the audited options are the safer bet.
